One step to simplify life is reducing the time spent online. Running an Internet driven business means not only creating and filling necklace orders, invoicing and shipping, but responding to emails. For awhile this task was requiring up to 2, often 3 hours a day due to pain in my wrists and hands ( I must type slowly) but also because some inquiries require or deserve detailed, thoughtful replies. That's 14 hours of typing a week, and increased damage to already fragile tendons and bones. The physical pain and frequent numbness and spasms reminded me to spend more time living, less time at the keyboard.
My husband and I realized we've become entrenched in a cycle of working 7 days a week, late in the evening, month after month. including holidays. This has became normal, and since neighbors and friends also work from home and keep similar hours we've become accustomed to doing little else aside from job related activities. We'd laugh about how none of us can go out for dinner because we not only work all day, but evening too! This focus is fine for an occasional rush project, but as a life style is unhealthy, even though we both enjoy our work.
Having the work area in full view (dining room) doesn't help - tasks are always there, beckoning. We've decided to take at least one day a week off for ourselves (and for tackling household tasks, chores, etc together). Aside from this Sunday evening blog, I'm trying to avoid the computer or work table on weekends. After all, have any of you ever heard a dying person confess " My only regret is that I should have spent more time working"?

GIVE AWAY PROJECT WEEK 6
Make a pot of green tea with cardamon and settle back
to enjoy a night in Afghanistan: 3 great dvds and the book by Greg Mortenson "Three Cups of Tea"
At right you can read the back of "Three Cups of Tea", finally a book about whats being done right in Afghanistan...is anyone surprised Mortenson's success has to do with listening to the People and respecting their customs?
"Baran" The cover, at
right, provides a good description. I loved this film and have watched it many times.
 |
| Above are the front covers.... |
 |
| "Kandahar ": stark, troubling, beautifully produced and directed |
 |
"The Kite Runner" I liked the book and recommend reading it before seeing the movie . The film is wonderful, but the book is so much more detailed and nuanced.
This Give Away goes to the first person who comments - just something simple. I ask that the recipient pay shipping, $5.50. If you live outside the continental USA it will be more, but I aks only what the post office charges. You can pay by Paypal or send me the money. Ill email you (or post on my fb page) for delivery information. |
Hello -
ReplyDeleteI would love these items.
I have been enjoying your blog since FaerieCon in Baltimore. I met you right before the show ended. It was great to meet and speak with you and see some of your work in person. I have admired your lovely art since I first saw it in calendars in the 1990s.
Cheers!

ReplyDeleteI have to do some cleaning out of my own place, so I don't mind if you claim these items at all. I remembered that my mother owns the book and I know that at least two of the films are available to me to watch as well.
Cheers
